Drinking-straw attachment looks simple, but a reliable trial must bring several variables under control: the outer package surface, straw wrapper, adhesive application pattern, compression timing, line conditions and the documentation required for the destination market.

A technical data sheet can help a buyer screen a candidate. It cannot confirm that an adhesive will perform on every paper, film, coating, machine or finished package. The final decision should therefore follow a controlled trial using the buyer's real materials and acceptance method.

This guide uses Jiajian model L-2924 as a concrete example. All numeric values below come from the model-specific technical data sheet revised March 19, 2026 and apply only to L-2924.

1. Identify every surface in the bond

Do not describe the job only as “straw attachment.” Record:

  • The beverage-package outer surface: uncoated paper, printed paper, laminated material or another finish.
  • The straw-wrapper material and any printing or treatment.
  • Coatings, varnishes, slip agents, dust, moisture or surface contamination.
  • The contact area available for the adhesive.
  • Whether the package or wrapper changes between suppliers or production batches.

The L-2924 technical record identifies drinking-straw attachment and bonding to paper and laminated materials as its main-purpose scope. That makes it a candidate for evaluation, not a universal compatibility guarantee.

2. Document the application equipment

Before selecting trial settings, provide the melt and application-system details:

  • Melt-tank, hose and applicator model.
  • Nozzle type and application pattern.
  • Tank, hose and nozzle temperature setpoints.
  • Time the adhesive remains molten during normal production and stoppages.
  • Line speed and time from application to contact and compression.
  • Current maintenance condition, including char, contamination or blocked-nozzle history.

Controller setpoints do not necessarily equal the adhesive temperature at the nozzle. Record each heating zone and check application stability at normal production conditions.

3. Use the L-2924 data sheet as a starting window

The March 19, 2026 L-2924 technical data sheet records:

  • Appearance: white pellets.
  • Ring-and-ball softening point: 97 ± 10°C.
  • Recommended application temperature: 140–170°C.
  • Brookfield viscosity: 2,000 ± 500 mPa·s at 160°C.
  • Curing-time reference: 1–3 seconds.
  • Packing reference: 25 kg per bag.
  • Storage reference: 12 months in a cool, ventilated and dry place.

These values are screening and trial-planning references. They do not promise a specific line speed, adhesive consumption, finished-package result or current commercial availability.

4. Define the bead or dot before comparing candidates

An adhesive comparison is difficult to interpret if the applied amount and placement are inconsistent. Before the trial, define:

  • Dot, bead or other pattern.
  • Target position and contact area.
  • Method used to monitor applied amount.
  • Compression method and duration.
  • Acceptable variation across the package.

Photograph the application pattern and label samples by settings. If the pattern changes during the trial, record that change rather than attributing the result only to the adhesive.

5. Check timing against the real line sequence

The L-2924 sheet lists a 1–3 second curing-time reference. This is not a guaranteed cycle time. The usable process window can change with adhesive amount, package surface, straw wrapper, ambient conditions, compression and equipment behavior.

Measure the actual sequence:

  1. Adhesive application to initial contact.
  2. Contact to completion of compression.
  3. Release to the next handling step.
  4. Any planned line stop and restart condition.

Define what “set” means for the buyer's process—for example, no straw movement at a specified handling point—and use the same definition for every candidate.

6. Change one variable at a time

Start within the documented 140–170°C range and use the equipment supplier's safe operating instructions. When adjustment is needed, avoid changing temperature, adhesive amount, compression and line speed together.

During the trial, observe:

  • Stable feeding and melting.
  • Consistent application shape and placement.
  • Stringing, dripping, overspray or nozzle buildup.
  • Package marking, distortion or visible surface damage.
  • Straw movement at the agreed handling point.
  • Restart behavior after a controlled pause.

A single-variable record makes the result more useful for technical approval and later troubleshooting.

7. Set pass/fail criteria before samples arrive

The buyer owns the finished-package acceptance criteria. A trial plan may include:

  • Application consistency across a defined sample set.
  • Straw position after the planned compression and handling sequence.
  • Bond condition after the buyer's chosen conditioning period.
  • Failure mode using the buyer's internal test method.
  • Package appearance and absence of process contamination.
  • Line cleanliness and restart behavior.

Record the substrate batches, settings, time, operator and sample identity. Do not replace a documented result with a general statement that a sample “worked.”

8. Separate application fit from regulatory evidence

The words “drinking straw,” “beverage packaging” or “non-toxic” do not by themselves prove food-contact compliance or suitability for a destination market. The L-2924 TDS is a technical product record; it is not a complete regulatory approval package.

Before commercial use, tell the supplier:

  • Destination country or region.
  • Exact package construction and where the adhesive sits.
  • Whether direct or indirect food-contact review is required.
  • Customer, retailer or brand-specific document requirements.
  • Required document version, product identity and batch traceability.

Request current, product-specific evidence and have the buyer's compliance team assess it against the intended use. Do not infer certification coverage from a general material report.

9. Information to send for an L-2924 review

For a focused technical discussion, send:

  • Photos and specifications for both bond surfaces.
  • Beverage-package and straw-wrapper samples if available.
  • Equipment, nozzle and application-pattern details.
  • Temperature settings and normal molten dwell time.
  • Line speed and application-to-compression timing.
  • Current defect or process concern.
  • Destination market and required documents.
  • Estimated monthly quantity and buyer-defined pass/fail method.
